“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” — John 7:38
In 1997, Kenny G set a world record by sustaining an E-flat on a saxophone for 45 minutes and 47 seconds. The air in his lungs kept flowing and flowing as if it would never stop. Most of us would turn purple after a minute or less. Musicians know that Kenny G was able to do it by using a technique called circular breathing the same technique used to play the didgeridoo. Regardless of how he did it, it’s impressive.
In John 7:38, Jesus promises to fill us with streams of living water that will never stop flowing. When you put your faith in Jesus and trust him by living according to his Word, you will find yourself filled with a never-dying hope. You’ll find courage that springs forth in the most discouraging circumstances. Joy will surprise you. Peace will flood fear from your soul, and all of these things will come from the Spirit within you.
It’s not a breathing technique. It’s the work of God. It’s a promise for you. Kenny G sustained that note by himself for a long time. But Jesus will sustain streams of living water in you forever.
Where do you turn when your soul feels dry?
Have you ever met someone who seemed to have unending hope? Where do you think that came from?
