Be There For Each Other

Balwyn Anglican

Friends,

The last few weeks we have been thinking about ‘Community’ and building healthy relationships in God’s family. We’ve looked at various Scriptures that shed light on this topic, and considered various themes including ‘counting the cost of community’, ‘moving beyond superficiality’ in our relationships, ‘healing relational viruses’ and ‘setting healthy relational boundaries’. In the week ahead we will be looking at ‘extending (such) community to others’.

At the end of the day though the proof is in the eating and how we do community together. Lives are often full and finding time to build meaningful relationships sometimes seems in short supply. Yet God’s plan is that we be a community of His people that don’t just meet together for our own benefit, but display something of what it looks like to be the people of God, and of that end time, community where we will gather in perfect harmony in the presence of God, enjoying all the blessings promised for those who are His followers.

Growing in to such a community doesn’t just happen, it takes time and effort and a desire to be with fellow believers, sharing in the good times and the tough times, building one another up, and ‘not (as the writer to the Hebrews puts it) giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as we see the Day approaching.’ (Hebrews 10:25).

I pray that we might be that sort of community, growing in our relationships with one another and inviting others in.

Brian
