To serve and be served

Balwyn AnglicanComment

Friends,

So often I find that people in the church are willing to help others but find it incredibly difficult to receive help from other brothers and sisters in Christ. I don’t think this is how it should be.

Over and over again in scripture we are encouraged to support and encourage, to care for and love one another, to build one another up. In the words of the hymn:

Brother, sister let me serve you,
Let me be as Christ to you.
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant too

As we enter this time of lent we are reminded that Christ himself came to serve. He encouraged us to receive from Him. And as bearers of His image and His servant nature we are called on to not only serve one another but to receive from one another as we live our lives together as His people.

When you are next tempted to say no to the offer of help from a brother or sister, give a moment’s thought to the idea that indeed it is Christ who is offering for your building up and blessing and for the strengthening of the fellowship of His church.

God bless.
