Wednesday evening marked the inauguration of our Archbishop, Philip Freier as Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia. It was an uplifting occasion with Bishops and other dignitaries from around Australia in attendance.
The Archbishop of Canterbury – Justin Welby preached and took part in the commissioning of Archbishop Philip to this role in our life together. In doing so he reflected on the challenges faced by the church in communicating the good news of the Gospel against what sometimes seemed a ‘riptide’ of opposition. He contrasted this with the freedom the gospel provides to love and bring hope to people in our cities and nation, as we encourage them to find relationship with God through Jesus and be empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Archbishop Philip has consistently sought to focus us on this life giving message. He continues to encourage us with the vision of ‘Making the Word of God fully known’ in our communities and relationships.
We wish him well in this new position which adds to his already considerable responsibilities of Archbishop in this Diocese. Continue to pray for him – that he might be granted holiness of life and wisdom in the conduct of this important ministry among us.
