Sunday 8 February

Younger Group with Karina

This week we continued exploring how Jesus transforms us by growing the fruit of the Spirit. We can tell an apple tree from the apples, so we can tell a person full of the Holy Spirit by their 'fruit' - their actions, attitudes and behaviours.
The Trinity is three parts of one God. As believers in Jesus we have one part with us, always working, guiding and helping us. Allowing the Holy Spirit to work is allowing the 'good fruit' to grow in our lives. It allows us to 'feed' others with this fruit of God's presence.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) Which of these fruits do you want others to treat you with? Which do you want to see grow in yourself? God's Holy Spirit, inside you, is helping to grow them right now.

Older Group with Miriam

This week Miriam had quite a large group, so we had some interesting times playing games about and discussing authority and leadership. We talked about Romans 13:1-5, and asked what it means to respect people. Interestingly, the most common signs of respect that we came up with were "Listening" and "Obedience". It's very unpopular these days, especially in Australia, to respect authority. And sometimes authority should be disobeyed, as the disciples showed in Acts when they disobeyed the Temple Court's demands to stop preaching Jesus.
But the Bible does call us to "submit to those in authority" - and maybe that's not such a bad thing to practice!
If you get a chance, have a chat with your child about why we show respect and obedience, and how it can be a way to show and practice God's love.

Breaking news: our seeds from last week are sprouting!    Since this   photo   there is a second Sunflower shoot and a tiny tomato shoot. It's amazing to watch the transformation of these seeds.
